Our Story began in 1949
R Millican Opticians has proudly served the people of Merseyside for over 60 years, with a strong heritage rooted in family values and independent eye care.
The story began in 1949 when Harry Millican opened the first family opticians practice. This was followed shortly after by his brother John Millican, who established a practice on Everton Road in 1951. A third brother, Geoffrey Millican, went on to open a practice in Moreton on the Wirral in 1970.
Over time, the Millican family became closely associated with trusted, independent optometry across the region. John Millican’s four sons all went on to qualify as optometrists, continuing the family tradition and strengthening the practice’s clinical foundations.
Today, R Millican Opticians remains the last continuing independent practice from the original Millican family legacy. The business is now led by Rob and Ruth Millican, who continue to uphold the same values of quality, honesty, and patient-focused care that have defined the practice for generations.
It is, and always has been, a true family story built on expertise, trust, and community.
